Joshua M. Caplan joined Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP as an associate in 2006. Mr. Caplan is a member of the firm's civil litigation, intellectual property, and immigration and nationality law groups. Mr. Caplan earned his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2006. During law school, he was a member of the Constitutional Law Quarterly. He also taught a moot court course and worked for the Academic Support Program providing first-year law students with the tools necessary to succeed in law school. Mr. Caplan received awards for Best Brief in Moot Court for excellence in written argument and the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence for his coursework in Negotiation and Mediation. During the summer of 2004, he worked as a full-time extern for the Honorable Maxine M. Chesney in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Mr. Caplan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development with a minor in Pure Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Caplan worked in Oakland, California coordinating a grassroots program to promote literacy in primary and elementary schools in the Bay Area. Mr. Caplan has been actively engaged in community-based immigration volunteer programs, including serving at the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant in Berkeley, where he represented foreign nationals seeking asylum in the United States, and attending immigration clinics in Oakland coordinated by the Alameda County Bar Association's Volunteer Legal Services Corporation. Mr. Caplan is a member of the State Bar of California and the Alameda County Bar Association. As a tribute to his service in Alameda County, the Alameda County Bar Association selected Mr. Caplan as its member of the month for the month of April 2010. His recreational activities include playing basketball, trail running with his Labrador retriever, reading books to his daughter, and designing and maintaining websites for non-profit organizations. © 2010 Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP.
