SAME SEX DISCRIMINATION IS ACTIONABLE UNDER FEDERAL LAW
(1998)

As we predicted in the last issue of Developments, the United States Supreme Court has now ruled that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as amended, prohibits discrimination based on sex, even where the allegedly discriminatory treatment--in which case sexual harassment--is from a person of the same sex. Many state courts, including those in California, had come to the same conclusion under state anti-discrimination laws. It can be expected that many more states will now also recognize same sex harassment as a violation of law.
